No. This tool copies text from a scan. It does not verify an identity document.

Is the scanned image removed from the download?

Which language should I pick?

English for an English page, Hindi for a Devanagari page, and English and Hindi when the page uses both. The wrong language produces the wrong letters.

What if I need to cover a number?

What is PDF OCR?

PDF OCR reads the words off a scanned page and gives you text you can copy. A scan is a picture of a page. The letters are visible, but they are not real text until a recognizer reads them. This tool does that in your browser for English, Hindi, or both.

The download is still the original scan, with the recognized words added so you can select and search them. It does not verify an identity document, and it does not cover or remove a number. Covering a number is Edit PDF. A photo that is not a PDF yet goes through Image to PDF first.

How to copy text from a scanned PDF

Upload one scanned PDF. The file is read in this browser and recognition does not start by itself.
Choose the language — English, Hindi, or English and Hindi — and whether to read this page or every page. Files longer than 20 pages are read one page at a time.
Recognize and wait while the page number updates. You can cancel. A cancelled run does not offer a partial download.
Check the text against the preview, especially digits and Hindi words. Then copy it, download a text file, or download the searchable PDF.

English and Hindi

English is the default. Choose Hindi when the page is in Devanagari. Choose English and Hindi when the page mixes both, which is common on school worksheets, forms, and notices. The language you pick is the one the recognizer is allowed to read. A Hindi page read as English will come back as the wrong letters.

A scan can still misread a word, a matra, or a digit. Compare the text with the page before you share it or paste it into a form. Handwriting is less reliable than printed type.

What you can download

Copy text puts the recognized words on the clipboard. Download text saves a .txt file with a heading for each page. Download PDF saves a copy of the scan that still shows the picture, with the recognized words placed on the page so a viewer can select them.

The picture is not removed. If a page comes back empty, that page says no text was found. You can send the PDF on to Protect, Compress, Merge, or Edit PDF without uploading it.
